I’m sure by now, you know Season 4 is upon us. It’s no secret that Jason Sudeikis and friends have big ties to Kansas City, and the lead up to Season 4 (after thinking we weren’t getting anymore!) has been everywhere: all over our socials, commercials, and most recently, The World Cup. (Was Kansas City the best host city? I absolutely think so). Why do I care? Because Public Print had a teeny tiny part of it and I’m so grateful for that - big or small.
Will it be big? Probably not. But 2 summers ago, I got an email from a set decorator who was “working on a show that was shooting next week and wanted to use our greeting cards.” In partnership with colorbloKC, we had designed and sold a few cards to Lily Floral Collective (shout out Lily and Betsy!) where the set decorator first saw them. We didn’t know what we were signing up for, but it didn’t take us long to figure out. We sold her 5 of our cards and are anxiously waiting for the August 5 debut episode (which I’ve heard is a love letter to Kansas City). Keep your eyes peeled for them in the elementary school principal’s office!
Whether or not we are featured, I want to take a moment to appreciate Jason’s love for where he grew up. KC isn’t considered a major city in the US (although I certainly think it qualifies), but man does he love to acknowledge it however and whenever he can. Those of us from here can see small nods through-out the entire show and the fact that they paid attention to what they used to style the background is just really important. They could have used Hallmark (still local, but obvi not small), but they chose a small, woman-owned business.
For that, and even though we may even end up on the cutting room floor, it’s really wonderful to be part of something that’s so so good.
