Public is closed the week of september 7-11 for an end of summer refresh coming to the shop!

Public Print will soon be Adams House Press!

I love coming home. I always have, like to the point where no matter where I am in the world, I will inevitably want to come home a day early. Even Paris. If you’re into astrology (if you’re not, how do you even justify things) and you look at my birth chart, most of my planets are in the houses that mean that “home” is pretty significant to me. I love being home more than anything and I’ve felt like this for as long as I can remember.

Obviously, home for me is mostly about the people who are in it. I went from my childhood home to a couple others before getting married and having babies, etc. The house I grew up in is on 60 acres of land south of Kansas City and it’s where my parents still live. It holds almost my entire childhood, and I can’t even begin to name all of the important things that happened there that shaped me into the person I am today.  My parents are incredibly gifted when it comes to art and music, and both were always in abundance in the Adams House.

When I started thinking about what I wanted to rename this business that I’ve now had for 2+ years, I exhausted all possibilities. For real, just like naming my actual human babies, it was all I thought about for months. This name didn’t hit me like a lightning bolt and it wasn’t super obvious that I loved it, at first. But I did keep coming back to it. I didn’t have many requirements, but I did know the name needed to be meaningful. What did I want to honor? I hadn’t told anyone because I wanted and needed no extra opinions, but ended up telling my best best friend that I was chewing on it. We’ve been best friends for 25+ years, so she knows me better than I know myself.

What she told me cemented my decision: “The Adams House is one of the most creative, peaceful, laughter-filled places I’ve ever had the privilege of being, so…”

While this shop isn’t always peaceful (these vintage ladies make some NOISE), it is creative and full of laughs. It’s where I love to be and where I’m ok leaving my house to be. It takes me back to where I grew up, where it was ok to dance and sing and draw and paint and play. I love that I’m using my maiden name to re-name this newest baby of mine, that I’m throwing it back to my dad, who gave me my love of letters, good words, beautiful paper, and most of all, seeing the good and beauty in almost everything. I’m so excited to share with you that Public Print is now Adams House Press.
